Yabu: House of Katsu at Robinsons Magnolia in Quezon City is a standout destination for anyone craving authentic Japanese comfort food. Nestled on the Lower Ground Level of Robinsons Magnolia, it captures the essence of traditional katsu with a modern, inviting ambiance. The spacious dining area accommodates groups well, though it tends to draw steady crowds, a testament to its reputation for quality and consistency.

The heart of Yabu’s menu lies in its expertly prepared katsu dishes, with the Hire Kurobuta Katsu Set often stealing the spotlight. This choice cut of pork provides tender, juicy meat encased in a crisp, well-fried crust that retains its crunch without becoming soggy. For those looking to experiment beyond classics, items like the Tornado Omelette Curry offer a delightfully balanced flavor, marrying mild spice and rich texture in a satisfying way.

What truly elevates the Yabu dining experience is the thoughtful inclusion of unlimited sides: miso soup, fresh cabbage salad dressed with either roasted sesame or wasabi dressing, and choice of white or brown rice. These not only complement the main dishes but also enhance the meal’s heartiness and comfort. Additionally, offerings like Furikake Fries and Korokke Tamago add a unique twist to the traditional Japanese menu, catering to adventurous palates.

Tried the new crispy katsudon. Tastes the same with the classic katsudon. The meat itself is crispy and not soggy lang but kind of over fried as the crust had a burnt taste

The place is spacious with plenty of seats, but it’s almost always full—no surprise, since the food is consistently great. Luckily, we got seated right away. We ordered the Hire Katsu Set and Tornado Omelette Curry, both of which came with unlimited refills of white or brown rice, miso soup, cabbage, and fruits. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and very filling. Big kudos to the staff—attentive and proactive, always doing their floor walk to offer timely refills without even being asked. A solid go-to for comfort food done right.

This branch has been established quite long already, but it is a testament on consistency for Yabu. We went a bit earlier to avoid the huge crowds usually for dinnertime. My wife opted to order something different now, trying out the new curry based one. The curry was just right and not overpowering, and the spice level is very on point. It was so good she asked me to try it out. Delicious. I ordered my usual go to rosu katsu 180g. Everything was I expected it to be. They did not have the pineapple drink available so we ordered the mango shake instead. I never got to try it so I am reserving from reviewing it. By the time we were leaving, the store was starting to be at max dine in capacity. Overall, another great time at one of the better chains in Manila.
